Amoxicillin and potassium clavulanate are two medications included in Intas Pharmaceuticals' Megamentin 375, which is used to treat bacterial infections. This medication can be used to treat bacterial infections of the ear, sinuses, throat, lungs, urinary tract, skin, teeth, joints, and bones. One of the main applications is the treatment of skin conditions like acne, which are brought on by skin bacteria.
The two components of the medication play distinct roles in ensuring that infection-causing bacteria are eliminated and do not develop drug resistance. Amoxicillin is an antibiotic that works to stop bacterial growth by preventing the development of the protective bacterial layer that bacteria require to survive. A beta-lactamase inhibitor known as potassium clavulanate can increase the effectiveness of amoxicillin while lowering the risk of bacterial resistance.
The recommended dosage of the medication is typically 750–1125mg per day (2–3 tablets taken at evenly spaced intervals throughout the day), depending on the severity of the infection you are trying to treat. The medication is administered until all signs of infection are fully gone. Avoid stopping the medication too soon because if you do, some bacteria may still be present and develop drug resistance.
If you use this medication, taking it with food should help you avoid experiencing stomach upset. Other potential side effects include nausea, vomiting, and diarrhoea. If you don't experience these side effects after stopping the drug's use, you shouldn't see a doctor.
Bodybuilders and other steroid users who prefer to inject their steroids are big fans of this antibiotic to prevent or treat potential injection site infections.
